In D3 there’s no reason to ever level up more than one of each class (except for the achievement) because you can try out all the skill builds any time you want, and I always liked rerolling in D2 in order to try out different builds. I kind of like the fact that I can’t totally respec my character any time I want, because it gives the game replayability that Diablo 3 doesn’t have.
It would certainly be enough to buy back the stray points you spend on abilities that you decide you don’t like, but still be punishing enough to stop constant respeccing of all skill points (which I assume it by design). I want to say it was Titan Quest, but my memory is failing me.Īnyway, I’d be okay with a system like that. There was a Diablo clone that let you buy back specific skill points (you’d click on the ability you wanted to take the point from), and the cost simply increased with each point you bought back, which seemed fair. Last 3 skills respec is ok but it’s easy to screw that up early on before realizing it’s too late. I’m not asking for full respec and I’m not sure how you would do it but it would be nice to get points back from a skill you realized too late that it doesn’t mesh well with your build idea. Seriously though, I wish there was some way to fix mistakes like this. Not only do you have the two skill trees for each class, but there are also the Relic skill trees for you to deal with as well.
The gameplay in Torchlight 3 is all about upgrading your respective character by acquiring skill points and getting access to new abilities, regardless of which of the four classes you have chosen.
